Evening fellas,

Well, as per title git first ever PAS rack out today on a Pug 206. Fekkin' hell, by far the hardest job I've ever had to do but crikey I'm feelin good this evening.... feel like a man grrrrrr

In brief the job went like this...

Steering wheel positioned straight ahead. Bolt removed from UJ which was deep in the drivers foot well. Tie rod end ball joints knocked out (these put up no fight.... undid nut and two love taps from a massive hammer on the knuckle and they fell out). Drop links disconnected. Disconnected lower control arm ball joints. Dropped subframe in its' entirety.... I wanted to just drop it down enough to sneak the rack out but that was impossible cos the rack has massive studs coming out of it at the bottom... how bloody stupid.... instead of just having locating bolts going through it like every other manufacturer  >:( ::). Then I stripped the torx bolt holding the lines going in to it  :-[ will get it out with an air hammer next week. and to make it that extra bit tricky the shift linkage is attached to the top of the rack  ??? but that was just one bolt.
Sadly I have no photos as we were in a rush to get tools packed up but it feels good  8)

oh and at lunchen I borrowed the valve spring compressor to get my valves out of my cylinder heads...fairly sure the valves aren't meant to be like this ...  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

bad bit of news is that the valve guides are all cracked  :'( so ill knock them out and have to have them replaced

Yeah you only have to look in the engine bay to see there's French stupidity everywhere. I've heard (although I have no experience) that the later models of Pugs are actually dead easy to work on.. like Fords. As said I cant confirm this  ::)

I was really surprised how feeble the tie-rod ball joints were. They weren't shagged looking either.... just not in there very well  :-\

ps note those two studs I mentioned that were part of the rack.....the reason the subframe had to be removed in its entirety as opposed to just being able to ''sneak'' it out  :y

Keep up with the mechanical work, Mr Bear......because you're unlikely to win a beauty contest any time soon. ;D ;D ;)
