£30 tablet PC
« on: 16 December 2013, 18:50:48 »

Datawind that launched this cheap tablet in India to get people connected to the Internet have now launched it in the UK for £29.99.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2524605/Worlds-cheapest-tablet-UbiSlate-7Ci-costing-just-30-launches-Britain.html

Before people deride it specification, no it is not an Ipad, a Nexus or Kindle Fire and comparing them with these I think that misses the point. £30 to get on the Internet for a poor household, or £30 for a young child for their first steps in computing and to run the educational apps. If a child breaks it at that price does it really matter?

I may well get one for my young daughter for the next time I go across to the Ukraine, where she is keen on simple arithmetic and I been thinking of writing a few simple apps to help her.

Think we might order one or two, see how they work. As at that price they will sell quite a few I think.

+1

It can't be knocked at all at that price IMO, and it will bring tech to even the poorest of families.

I read it on 3 websites including the BBC and believe it or not theirs was the best report and the only one with a comparison table, so even they get it wrong sometimes with a good bit of journalism.  ::) ::) ::) ::)
