Victory V's
« on: 07 January 2014, 09:40:57 »

Just been going through some old Biscuits Tins looking for some needle and thread, long story,  but found 3 packs of unopened Victory V's sweets.

I remember these when I was a kid, needles to say had to try one, bit hard but still pack a punch in the mouth.  :P

What ever happened to them?, not seen any for sale for donkeys years.  :-\

Ether, liquorice and chloroform .. nice mix! Like a gentle gateway to something from Fear & Loathing ..

For anyone who hasn't read the book (or seen the film);
Quote
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug-collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

My fuzzy memory seems to recall something to the effect that the wording on the lozenges was accidentally printed back-to-front, and when they tried to correct it, the public complained - they liked the quirkiness (and British eccentricity?) of the erroneous labelling and demanded that it be restored.
Is this just my imagination, or can anyone a little on the old side confirm?

My fuzzy memory somewhere recalls they were re - named during or just after WW2 :-\ :-\   to Victory v

 or should it have been V for Victory :-\ :-\ :-\

SWMBO  says  could they have been named after the battle of Trafalgar / Nelson   & HMS Victory  . . .  . but to early (1805) I say

So they had Either, Chloroform and a touch of Cannabis in there, what else I wonder, Household Bleach mixed with Antifreeze maybe?, no wonder my bloody face is numb, not too sure how old these ones were I found but think I save the other 2 packets and sell them down the Local Wetherforks Pub.  ;D

'Victory Chlorodyne Lozenges with the original ingredients of pulverised sugar, linseed, liquorice, chlorodyne (a soothing mix of cannabis and chloroform) and pure acacia gum'.
