Europe is gradually cooling
« on: 19 January 2014, 22:03:41 »

Analysis of tree rings shows that Europe has been cooling 0.3degC / 1000 years for the last 2000 years, which is why during Roman times this plus a warm period explains why the south side of the North and South Downs were used for growing grapes and producing wine.  :y :y :y

statistics can be used to prove anything .. just choose the right time period and the right data set... :(

Whilst not a tree hugger or a global warming protaganist ... my simple brain tells me the data set quoted in that study fails to take into account the effects of the industrial revolution of the last 200 years ..  as, as far as I know, the Romans of 2000 years ago didn't burn coal/oil/gas or fly aircraft or have oil powered shipping or cars.

IMHO the comparisons are worthless from a mathematical/logical perspective.

Without looking, I'm sure there's a statistic which clearly shows that the recent single volcanic eruption in Iceland produced more greenhouse gasses than mankind ever did... :-\

So in 2000 years Europe has cooled down 0.6C, hardly a biggie imo.....

whatever the statistics says , I have made my decision.. seasonal temperatures aside, even monthly temperatures start to vary widely..   december was worse than last years february.. and now january 15 celcius daytime..  :o  I'm in that city for more than 37 years and first time I see something like that..

To put that into context, 37 years out of the last 2 millenia is pretty insignificant. :-\
Locally all the shit that's been blown up in the middle east in that time is as likely a cause for your findings as global climate change...
