Tech2 don't detect ECU
« on: 21 January 2014, 16:02:20 »

Hello,
I tried to solder a chip in my stock ECU and unfortunately, I burnt it.
So I bought two secondhand ECU (same model and numbers) but the mecanic is unable to install them. Tech2 seems to be unable to communicate with the both ECUs. One of the both was certified fully operationnal by the seller.
What's wrong ? Is the mecanic incompetent (like me when I'm trying to soldering a chip) ?

My car is a '98 Opel Omega 2,5 TD CD with automatic transmission.

Thank you for your help.

Is the ECU of the correct part number?

Can tech 2 access the ECU adn read basic codes etc?

Programming a different ECU with tech 2 is veru easy IF its the correct one.

The ECU is the exactly right part number.

Tech2 can't access any codes of the ECU but detect all others modules.

I'm totally lost... my ECU is a BOSCH 0281001428 JM 90 494 180.

Mecanic says me that he used Tech2 and a CAN module.

No Candi module required.

Is the Tech2 known to work ok?

I called the mechanic. He tells me that the ECUs are not detected Omega.
He tries Tech2 on another Omega with automatic transmission and it works. He tries to plug my ECUs on this car and it doesn't work.
He tells me that my ECUs are out of order. I'm "jaded"... :(

Just wondering if the ECU's you have got needed to be "cleared" from the orginal vehicle first, find this alot with newer electronics in that they can not just be taken from one car and plugged into another car.

As your in France does your car have the single or twin can TD engine?

98 will be the non common rail unit.

These ECU's just code straight up dead easy, did one at Newent so a member could swap between full fat and standard maps by switching ECU's (although I am confident I could fit both chips and a switch to do this)

These units fairly robust. No issues with swapping them (although ECU needs to be programmed to learn immobilser), no clearing needed.

I'd look to see if any wiring got damaged when removing/installing, or and fuses blew.

My seller will send me another ECU. I hope that this one will run... but I don't understand how and why the others are dead... Do you know someone who can test them ?

When I was working at a Hospital in central London there was a case of a cleaner trying to use a vacuum cleaner with a damaged power cord.

She plugged it into every socket she could in the ward until eventually (having blown every circuit) she decided that all the sockets in the ward were faulty.

Take heed of TB's advice and check for damaged wiring before plugging another ECU into your car.

Ok I see. I must read two or three times before understanding...
Problem is that the mechanic told me that he test with an ECU from a running Omega like mine, this ECU was detected by Tech2...
