It's a bit of a laugh though when you watch the video, where the Police are going nuts and you expect them to drag a big young bloke out of the car, but it's a little confused elderly fellow instead.....  ::)  ;D

No, they would have asked for backup and once it arrived, effected a stop and still smashed the windows in.

If the cop was OTT, what was the old bloke doing? Definitely OTT, driving away when asked to stop. And then resisting arrest. And he certainly doesn't seem confused posing for pictures (in a suit!) or arguing about the amount paid out!!

It is a one sided story designed to sell news.

I think it was over the top for what essentially was a stop initially for nor wearing his seatbelt that turned into speeding and FTS for police. A quick radio to other patrols and it could have easily been boxed in and brought to a controlled stop if necessary. The tool that jumped on the bonnet was very lucky he didn't get mowed down (imagine if he'd really gone for it and put his foot down  :o :o :o ) it would be bye bye Mr. Plod ::)

I had something like that happen to me a while ago, clown in a BMW initially stopped, then when I approached the car he did one. I could have easily jumped in front and batoned the window/windscreen, but self preservation / wanting to see tomorrow kicked in & I ran outa the way and radioed for help. Within 3 minutes about half a dozen patrol cars decended and the little $**** was caught SAFELY, (well after he ran into a field in the pitch darkness trying to out run the dog and ran into a barbed wire fence)

I'd say it could have been handled a lot better....

The old boy had pulled over of his own accord. Perhaps Mr policeman could have checked to see if the driver's door was open before attacking it with his baton, Rambo style.

Way over the top in my opinion. :(

Not much of a chase was it?

A maximum speed of 42 MPH, and all on the correct side of the road.

Mr Plod was just itching for some aggro in my opinion. :(

Door was locked, as it had to be opened through the window... priority is removing the key in order to immobilise the vehicle...

Everything else can be dealt with afterwards :-\

Probably shitting himself that the coppers was going do to his head what they did to the windscreen  ::)

Don't get me wrong here, the stupid old tw*t deserved to have the book thrown at him BUT as I said, if they was 5 big lads in there then they would have been a hell of a lot more diplomatic  ;)
If the driver had been ramming cars all over the place and was a imminent danger to members of the public then fair enough, but that wasn't the case.

The coppers car has all the video evidence needed to put the driver in front of a judge and ban him for a few months.
Well over the top imo  :(

Very easy to make that judgement retrospectively and from behind a keyboard/screen. I have no idea what was going on the PC's mind and even whether he had had someone else try and kill him a few hours earlier on in the shift. We are presuming and assuming a lot of factors from what we have read in the papers/online etc. For eg: we cannot see the drivers actual reaction when they approach the driver as all I can see is the back of his head (from memory, I havent watched it again). It could have been threatening.

I am generally a very calm person and all my colleagues know that. But there have been one or two instances in my career where I have blown my top in response to a stress situation, disproportionately, because of events that had happened before the said incident. I am not saying that it is justified, but we are all human and I suspect some of us have made worse judgements. Yet to have a "holier than thou attitude" without actually witnessing the event or what led up to it, is a tad unfair.

There are a lot worse things going on in this country including paedophilia and child battering which I would rather worry about than some RR's windscreen. From memory they didnt physically assault the old guy, now that would have been OTT. My 2p.

But surely the technology exists now to record every spoken word on & off camera. I mean if the bloke had been in a nasty incident prior to this one we would then know or at least his boss would.

So every copper goes wired for sound as soon as he/she goes out to protect the community. Like it, yer would probably have caught me saying "woof" to that little blonde lady legs copper that came around the pompey factories the other day. Boys she`s a credit to the Hampshire force.  :y
Even the bulky uniform couldn`t hide those knock out curves. :P
