bose subs
« on: 20 February 2014, 16:28:55 »

are the bose subs anygood?

even though the sound is decent on the standard cdx speakers, i find it a bit lacking in low end bass.

thinking of getting some bose subs from the scrappy and wiring them up to the amp ive got from my current subs, dont want to fit the subs ive got as i want to keep the boot space.

so the bose ones will be ideal on the shelf if there not too bad.

You could in theory wire them up to an external amp and they might sound OK but better with a sub in a dedicated box...

Im removing the BOSE setup in my Elite over the next coming weeks and replaceing the wiring etc.. to run what I had in the Vec...

Plus Iv got a brand new double din satnav H/U coming on Monday and that won't work wit the BOSE set-up at the moment because it aint compatible with anything....

The only thing thatt you might find is that the BOSE subs are the wrong impedance for your amp, if the amp can go to 2 ohm stable then you should be OK with running the subs.... they will give some thump or added bass that is lacking in your CDX but be careful with turning the gain up too much on your amp as it could damage either the amp itself or the subs could go bang if they haven't already as they will already be quite old TBH

What you could possibly do is install a pair of 6-8" subs where the BOSE subs would go but you might have problem with getting the actual sound of the subs into the cabin.... which could mean you might need to replace the rear shelf with the BOSE rear shelf....

The BOSE subs are quite limited in both power and frequency response, whilst ok(ish) within the full BOSE setup, I would suggest to steer clear of them and go aftermarket ones if you can, given that none of your setup is currently BOSE.

I would also say the Bose wont be up for the job, or wont last long, but by all means try them, if you Sub Base Amp does Mono out you could always wire the Bose in Series.

If you want to use the the Bose Rear Parcel shelf, you could always fit some more beef'er or bigger Subs underneath by using some home made wooden spacers, as long as the Cones / Seals dont hit the outer hole and all is air tight (ie a good Baffle) then that would sound ok.
