Search.conduit.com

I have just spent 3 frustrating hours removing the above from a friends PC.

This awful site had embedded itself, apparently via another download, in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, taking over all search facilities which produced adverts, distorted information to sell you product / services every time you entered what you really wanted - Internet Explorer or Google issuing relatively unbiased data. This programme had spread throughout her system and it took many programme deletions, resets, settings rescheduling, reboots, along with some trial and error.

I understand from internet searches that "search.Conduit" is a real problem once embedded in your PC, taking many commands to finally remove, as indeed I we'll discovered!!

I have warned my friend to be far more careful what she accepts or places on her PC, especially when using Facebook and generally opening emails / adverts.  For those who don't know about this problem, be warned! :( :(

Conduit Search is a Web Search Engine, which hijacks browser settings and installs toolbars.  Pretty easy/standard to remove, believe there is a freeware removal tool avaiable - search for Adware Remover Tool Ver 3.8 ;)

CCleaner and MalwareBytes will also remove it.

Thanks. Yes, I went down the route of trying to acquire a removal programme after reading recommendations on what to do on the net. I soon found myself being quoted $29.99 to purchase it, which soon escalated to £81 once the sterling quote was given, plus VAT!! I soon stopped that!

After that I decided to follow a FREE instruction pack on a UK site, but even then I had to modify certain aspects of the process as the search.conduit, and associated malware, was so stubborn to my attempts to remove. A real bastward  that I personally have never accounted before and really tested my skills with operating systems!! :o :o :o :o :o

I hope my friend NEVER again goes down that route!

can be awkward to remove and I found easiest way is a complete re install if that option is available but you can lose allot of data doing it

A lot of those type of search bars come from the e-card sites. the boxes are ticked and unless you see it and un-tick it then you get it loaded.  >:( >:( >:(

Yep, but most are easy to remove, including Conduit Search.

Agree that Malwarebytes can usually remove most infections (provided definitions are up to date), and ccleaner is also a useful tool.
