I bought some 6000K 35W D2S bulbs off a popular internet auction site, they arrived in good time - however - upon installing them it takes 4-5 attempts to get them to fire and stay lit.... I can reinstall the original bulbs (Osram Xenarc D2S) and they fire immediately...

I sent the bulbs back and they sent out another pair, they do the same thing..... is there a compatibilty problem with the Omega ballasts where they ONLY like certain breeds of bulbs...?

Please if anyone has any links etc.. for bulbs that work with the Omega ballasts Id be grateful....

Phillips or Osram. Most of the D2S`s on the bay are chinese shite

Yep - BIG price difference... might bite the bullet next month and buy a pair - My Elite needs new bulbs as they've gone dull...

Iv got 6000K HID's in the headlights at the moment and they are working fine, but want the OEM bulbs back in ....

I have fitted hundreds of overhead HID lamp systems over the years, they operate on the same principle as car HID systems and so many times when they gave a problem it was due to incompatability between lamps and ballasts etc

The rule of thumb when re-lamping etc was to fit Osram lamps with Osram ballasts and so on

Often a non striking lamp was due to say an Osram lamp with a Venture/Phillips ballast

Yeah it does - kind of ....

Just need to bite the bullet I reckon and buy a pair of Osram's to make sure it works....

Got MoT soon and need the headlights to work obviously...

Failure to strike is common on cheap chinese tat, which is all you're likely to find on egay TBH (even if they do come in a Phillips box ).

I bought a pair of Osrams for about £30 each a couple of weeks ago, as my bulbs had gone dim - 15yrs, 200+k miles had taken their toll. Now back to normal brightness

6k is quite high, unless its purely for show. Somewhere between 4-4.5k is the sweet spot for illumination, and why OE manaufacturers always use bulbs in this range. The Osram ones I bought, and the (funnily enough, original Osram) ones that came out were both 4.2k

Your call, obviously, but 6k are normally more in the realm of showcars, and certainly give less illumination than the 4-4.5k ideal. Generally, 6k give almost 10% less illumination than 4.2k (hence why manufacturers go for around 4.2k)

If you want a good white light then 4-4.5K is what you want, the lower the K figure the whiter the light.
