Sony av receiver. Not even trying.
« on: 04 April 2014, 19:14:37 »

My old fony amp went pop recently. Had a few issues with it and its out of date so didn't bother looking at a repair. No hdmi, hence not enough optical or indeed any other sound inputs.

Replaced it with this
http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/sony/strdn1040/sony-strdn1040

7.1 surround hdmi wifi enabled dual zone home cinema av receiver.  8)

7 hdmi ports and loads of other inputs too. numerous to mention. 1 output to the lounge tv. 1 output to the bedroom tv. Wifi apple app for remote control, music and video streaming anywhere in range of the home wifi.  8)

And the sound? Well, you know how some systems only start to sound loud when distortion sets in, and you think "ooh that's a bit loud". Well this goes WAY beyond that, without sounding loud(read distorted) and just keeps going, and going, and going. Christ its loud, without even sounding "loud".

Like its not even trying. ;D

And all controlled from my ipad. Or phone. Or any other wifi device, like her lap top, or a pc or whatever.

Awesome. No, don't argue. It just is. The end. :y

I'll stick with my old Fony amp until it goes bang....about 15years now...still going....ok only 4 optic inputs, but enough for me....and cost me back then....ummm...over double the cost of yours with speakers

Does it come with a proper remote?  Actually, scrub that, really not interested in the slightest if a selling point is you use a gayDevice to control it.

Got one of those 2 weeks ago to replace our 12 year old Sony AV amp.

Have only run it on the old Sony speakers so far, but have a set of Cambridge Audio Minx speakers and satellites, plus 300W and 200W subwoofer units go to with them, seeing as the Sony will run a 7.2 setup.

And yes, it does sound good, even on the old speakers.
