Puff of blue smoke
« on: 17 April 2014, 20:32:51 »

When starting my car I get a puff of blue smoke.
I do have problems with my coil packs waiting on them being delivered.
Also do get an occasional sticky tappet in the morning.

Any one have any idea why I get the smoke after starting, there's no smoke during driving that I've noticed.

I did think it was the leaking cam seals but had rob replace theses last month and problem still there.

Also is there an easy cure to a sticky tappet, have done oil change and used hydraulic vaulve lifter treatment which did help but didn't cure.

Thanks

That's a relief thanks.
Is it an easy fix or do I just keep an eye on the oil levels.

I thought the later 2.6's didn't suffer from this?

Though there are tools for removing valve stem seals when the heads are in place (I've never used them) conventionally heads are removed to replace them and that's where the cost is. The last valve stem seals I bought were over 10 yrs ago and were a little over £1 each, but as said the cost is getting to them, so I'd just live with it & just keep an eye on the oil level until such time the heads need to come off for some other reason.  :y

Cool thanks for the info. Will prob just keep an eye on oil level as had it to pieces last month to do cam gaskets and cam belt.

The problem year I believe is 2001 that the stem seals were changed for inferior parts. But I have seen 2002 reg cars that have had 2001 heads on so perhaps could have been stock left over  ;)
