When The Decision To Scrap Comes.
« on: 30 May 2014, 13:18:29 »

Hi everyone  :y
Hope y'all having a great day.

I'm curious to know your opinions on when it really is time to scrap your Omega. :-\
What things should influence the decision and if you've had to make this decision yourself then
what was the reason for you?

It'd be great to get your view on this.
Thanks in advance
Anthony

When anything heavier than you falls off it... literally :y

So basically when it is so rusty that the suspension and drivetrain are no longer attached...

They are not without their faults, but treat wishbones, hbvs and the like as service items and you won't go far wrong imho :y

Oil cooler failure 99 times in a hundred due to poor servicing over the life of the car. More significant failures are actually few and far between, and most rust is cosmetic rather than significant. A rusty door will not a scrapper make...

I've just decided to break a perfectly good 2.2 in very good condition. Reasons are it's only going to sell for £400 maximum and even at that price people expect nothing to go wrong and will cause hassle, chances are it will need some repairs as they all do so doing it this way may bring more cash but long term less grief !

Check the chassis rails behind the front wheels. Mine has had it (along with many other things) and is now on ebay (sorry mods  ;))

Not normally, they tend to go wheelarch side :y

Worst case strut off and lower the subframe an inch or so, clean it up and plate it :y

Believe Shackeng had his done recently for not very much :-\

The old Elite had rotten front chassis rails and did wonder what was involved as to repair , so not too bad like you say if/when it comes to it on the mv  ;)
