Losing Weight
« on: 31 May 2014, 23:53:44 »

All my adult life i've had trouble keeping keeping my weight steady, basically because i eat what I like, & I like food full stop! ;D
I'm into my fourth year of remission from esophageal Cancer and everything has been going great until the end of February this year???
Since then I have been losing weight, lots of it! & feeling generally shit, without any explanation :o
at the last weigh in this morning, i've lost more than 3 Stones in as many months!
My legs & thighs are beginning to look like pipe cleaners & I can actually see & count my ribs for the first time in 20 years! :o
I have my 5th year checkup in July & was looking forward to the 'All Clear'; and I know I should see my GP, but irrationally I can't bring myself to go ???. Common sense tells me i'm too far down the road to full recovery for it go awry now? Maybe I've stumbled on a fantastic new weight loss regime without realising it ::)
On the plus side, I now have loads of clothes I can wear again after mothballing them when I put the weight on all those years ago, only trouble is none of them are even remotely in fashion! :D
I have to admit to being more than a bit apprehensive but i'm thinking Positive, after all I've just Taxed & Insured the Omega for the next 12 months & the old girl needs looking after in her old age ( the car, not swmbo! ;D)

The weight loss could be, and probably is, for reasons totally unconnected to your previous problems .. but by not seeking help you might be stacking further problems up, that something simple might well sort.

I've been in remission for 9 years now, different area but the same subject, and at EVERY annual check (and camera insertion) I have to go through my whole history/life style for the past year ... when I mentioned some minor aches/pains in the chest area - which is no where near the problem area !! - I was having a stress ECG within 12 hours !! As expected it was clear .. but as the nurses said ... a 15 minute test for a years peace of mind is worth it ...

Something is causing the weight loss, doing nothing but worrying will NOT find out what that something is .. so IMHO ... and I apologise for shouting ...  GET MEDICAL ADVICE NOW there is no reason not to.

You would probably spend 30 mins going to get a take away or a few bottles of beer and think nothing of it so spend the 30 mins getting medical advice just to be on the safe side, Don't think about it do it. Take the stress and worry out of your life . DO IT ASAP.

Thanks for that Nigel :y
A vebal shove between the shoulder blades is as efficatious as a kick up the Arris! You are of course right as I already knew, but at the moment I feel I would rather pay the Mess Bill for the entire Crew than face up to the reality that i'm worrying about nothing :-\ Stupid I know, but then I am :D
As an Aside, I'm glad to hear that you're on top of your own battle and long it may continue to be so! :y
Kindest regards, Phil. ;)

Having had my own skirmish with the Big C, I can understand your apprehension Phil and I think you know that doing nothing is not an option.  ;)

So I concur with Nigel and The Baron and you know what you need to do. All the best!  :y

agree with chris on this one 3 stone in as many months is way to quick...could well be another reason for losing weight that does not involve being ill...but best to know and get it checked out
