12 Volt Ignition Feed

Looking to pick up a 12 volt + ignition switched feed inside the triangular relay/fuse box in engine bay.

Have read through old posts and seems to be practical,but any pointers as to where I can find one ?

Found it guys ..thanks to trusty multimeter. ;)

For future reference if anyboby else needs it....mauve open socket in triangular relay box..think its for testing the fans.

2 rows of 3 pins...center pin on right closest to windscreen is a ignition switched 12 volt + and can be connected onto with a small crimped spade.

All sorted :y

That pin should be fed by a black wire if it's an ignition switched feed.

Couldnt get the plug high enough from the relay to see the cable colours though.

It checked out with meter as ignition 12 volt + switched as 0 when ignition off.Others showed either negative or with a slight voltage when ignition off.1 was permenant 12 volt +

OK, mate, just asking as you may have picked a +12v sense from the ECU output rather from the ing. feed.

Only mention this as Ive come across this before, the DBW ECU dont seem to be as robust as the older non DBW, in as much the earth return tracks inside the ECU can burn out or go intermittent.

Now you have me worried Chris. :o

Checked all pins with ignition on and engine running .Several were showing 12.6/7 volts...1 was showing over 14 volts and other was showing 0
With ignition and engine off 3 were showing varying around 0.5 volts ..1 still showing 0 volts and the 1 connected to was also showing 0 so on that assumption worked out it was a steady voltage when engine/running.

Some of those pins will be dragged up to 12 Volts through the relay coils in the engine cooling system, as it's designed as a diagnostic connector to test that. They might measure 12V but as soon as you try to draw a load from it, a fan will come on and your 12V will disappear!

Best thing to do is to verify that you have the pin that's fed by the black wire. This is pin 3 on the connector, and it's actually in one corner of the connector, suggesting that the one you have found is not the correct one..

Thanks for clarification ,Kevin.

Will have another look in the morning now and see if I can identify the "Black wire" and see what that shows with the meter on it  :y

The connector unclips from the relay it is attached to to make it easier to identify the wires. :y

Found " Black wire "..bottom r/h corner so conneceted up to that and all works fine.

Odd thing is with ignition off and key removed that pin is showing 0.4 volts...where as the pin above it which was my original choice shows 0 volts when ignition key removed but similar voltage of 12.5 when at position 2 on key.
