AG SRP works very well for hand polishing. However, it's a bit of cheating as it contains a fair amount of fillers.

Yes, correct but for an easy, all round finish I think that AutoGlym Super Resin Polish is hard to beat.

Sounds like Growler just wants something to give his paintwork a bit of a lift without going down the full detailing route? If so, wash WITHOUT fairy liquid, this is no good for the paintwork, tut tut! Use a decent car-wash liquid, Turtlewax 'Extreme' in the bright green bottle i've found quite good. Then finish the srp by hand. Dress the tyres with the Autoglym tyre dressing as well  :y

i would also advise using a wash mitt instead of a sponge to aviod scratching the paintwork, and also have a second bucket filled with warm plain water and use this to rinse the mitt after every pannel has been washed( you'll be amazed to see how dirty the second bucket gets)
