Backing up a non uk nokia
« on: 17 August 2014, 19:13:09 »

Mini me has a Nokia 808 pureview which he wants to backup onto his computer but the standard Nokia OVI software doesn't recognise the phone because its not a UK supported model.

Anybody know of any 3rd party software out there which will do the job ?

Ok, just checked, pretty much all usa and europe 808 pureview's where Symbian, so probably Belle if its been updated. Some late ones in Asia where booted with Meego, so depends where it came from?
If its Meego you probably wont be able to use Ovi Software. That said Meego has its own back up within the phone, so just back up and copy the Back Up Folder to another drive. If its Belle, try using the lasted Ovi software update. Worst case Ive got a Retail version of NSU which will do an update, so if you need a copy of it let me know.

Definitely running Symbian Chris.
He was writing app's for them until they got bought out.
He had a shit load of software stuff on it until last week when the phone crashed, wiping out most of the stuff.
Just to round it off, the micro sd card he had in it went tits up too so he has spent the last week rebuilding it from scratch hence the need to back it up somehow in case it happens again.

I'll have a word and tell him what you said.
Cheers Chris  :)

Totally crashed on him.
Apparently he was running quite a few pieces of software straight off the memory card at the time  :-\
Don't ask me why, he is 18 and a stubborn tinker like his dad  ::) :-[ ;D
It wouldn't boot up with or without the card so no choice but to do a hard reset.
Charging socket is okay, upto now

Couple of pointers. The Ovi Suite you mentioned is out the window now and is replaced with Nokia Suite which was designed to occupy the older Symbian and the newer Windows phones. Is the Suite up to date?, as far as I know its Universal and should work with any Nokia from around the Globe.

Other thing worth mentioning, if you boy was developing Apps, did He install Norton Hack on it? (Jailbreak it), if so not sure what effects that may have on Nokia Suite.

On a lot of the expensive Nokia's, 808 being one of them, you could do a Back Up on the Phone itself, either to the E Drive or Memory Card which saves it as an NBU File or simular, reason I say that is appart from the Nokia Retail Software I have, I also have another PC App that will strips out the info from the Back Up files, not ideal but better than losing everything again.
