Misfire on number 1 piston ONLY - help...!!!
« on: 01 August 2014, 20:44:35 »

Bear with me on this folks....

'99 Facelift Omega Elite 2.5 V6 X25XE

OK so today I was just tottling down to the shop for some bread for our dinner (or lunch for you southerners) and the Miggy decided to start to misfire, so didnt think anything of it and thought it might be a pluglead gone or plug maybe - anyhoo got home and waited for the engine to cool enough for me to be able to touch anything under the bonnet, started by pulling off pluglead number 1, started engine and problem still there, took off each plug lead and problem worsened on each time I disconnected each lead (obviously reconnected them again) - so thought to myself, could just be a duff pluglead, changed pluglead on number 1 still got a misfire, so took out pluglead and rested against engine - no spark, so came to the conclusion that the dispac/coilpack is duff on number 1 only as every other pluglead is sparking as it should... so tomorrow Im collecting a fresh and known to be working coilpack from a local merchants and they will be relieving me of more than I wanted to pay...

My question is, can the coilpacks just go duff on 1 cylinder only.... ?

Thanks for you time...

IIRC there are three coils inside the DIS each driving two cylinders..

Did you check each lead for spark? And where did you ground said lead?

I checked each lead for spark and grounded them all to the block....

5 have spark, only number 1 doesn't have any spark :(

Sounds like plug lead failure. Try putting a spare plug lead into the no. 1 lead socket and test that. As said, there are three coils in the pack, each one feeding two cylinders.

Iv swapped plug leads for known good working leads and still no spark.

I'll purchase the coilpack from the local rip-off merchant later today and see what happens once its fitted...

Fingers crossed etc...

Yeah that looks suitably knackered, did you manage to get all the bolts back in? I always left one out as it was a mare

Yep I got all four back in, I can guess the 1 you left out was the hidden 1 at left of the connector ... ?

Well done, Minifreek. Tricky job, isn't it? As I recall, they are torx headed screws, but the head side one near the connector you can only remove with an 8mm socket.
