Rough running
« on: 10 September 2014, 19:28:40 »

Hi guys,
Got a couple of concerns on my 2.6 elite. Starting from cold the car runs fine then the engine management starts to flash with it eventually staying illuminated and the car running rough as if one of the cylinders have gone down. When you switch off then switch back on all is ok for a couple of minutes then the sequence repeats. Any ideas? Tried reading the codes but only coming up with P1300 which means no fuel, the car is running on fumes at the moment. Also I've got the old noisy thrust bearing which I suspect means new clutch as getting into gear is a little stiff at the mo, bearable but annoying. Just trying to weigh it all up to decide if I should throw a load of cash at it or move it on. Your thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated  :y

Put about three gallons of fuel in for a start... if it cuts out, it will take at least that to restart it :-X

Pop the coil packs out and check for evidence of oil and water in the plug wells. This is the usual cause of misfires. Oil means the cam cover gaskets need replacing and the breathers need clearing. Water means the scuttle needs sealing up, especially around the nearside wiper spindle and where the two parts of the scuttle meet :y

Id also try putting at least 2 gallons of fuel in it, that'll possibly stop the P1300 code you're getting...

The 2.6 is a tricky and finicky and temperamental engine, usual with them is the crank sensor but as it's starting it possibly aint that.. It could be the lambda sensors are playing up, usually the sensor on the rear of the exhausts..

Im only going off experience with Vectra 2.6 GSi's were they have similar problems :)
