I have 3 sat on my drive, two saloons & an estate all auto's, two with head gasket failure & the other with no forward drive from the gearbox!  One saloon has had the head gasket done twice in my ownership despite being treated like a spoilt lady & only done 68,000! The estate has just chucked it's coolant outa the pram at just over 100,000. I've thrown in the towel & drive a Volvo V70 now but i've been told not to hold my breath with that either! ::) ;D

You Turncoat Phil................. :D :D

Must admit, I had the Head Gasket go at a little less than 80000, cheap fix though...... :y

Not when you're doing it twice in the same year it ain't Mike! ;D
as for being a 'Turncoat', I have still got the Omega bug & intend to fix at least one unless (a) I run out of money, (b) I run out of patience, or (c) I run out the gate screaming; whichever comes first! ;D ;)

 :D :D :y

Assuming you mean mpg... I'm getting about 27 on average (town driving) and about 42 on the motorway (mines an auto though)

That's amazing, your smashing VX's own figures when they were new!

I tend to just put the cruise on at 65... and drive with a light right foot, keep an eye on tyre pressures, usually just 1-2 people in the car

Ive noted that a lot of the 2.2 variety cars have pretty much immaculate bodywork  :-\ , wonder if they had a better base coat and finish  :-\ Not much difference in fuel consumption to the v6 3.0 though  ::)

nothing wrong with old 2.2...sad I got rid of mine :'(....those that lambast them really should try one as they are not slow at all...alright a 3.2 will leave one standing but trust me the 2.2 can be put on the hurry up...as for MPG figures I would say Ian's figures are about on the money :y
Yes, they are slow. Yes, I've tried plenty. AutoAddict's auto was probably the best one I drove, probably because he ragged the arse off it everywhere, despite what he claims ::)

The car is too heavy for the engine IMHO, and this really hurts MPG, esp in autos.

Ahh, yes. He who never exceeds one hundred and forty miles per hour. :y

EDIT: Well, not with the burger van on the back, at any rate. Might spill the custard. ::)
