Could some kind soul do me a bit of research. Am at 75th reunion at Windermere of wartime children evacuees I.e. sent away to safer school.
They remember Short Sunderlands being made here by about 1500 workers at Calgarth.
They remember them being fired up and then thundering down Windermere (6 mile take off?) They even lowered the Hawkshead ferry cables.

very useless Wifi here, so looking for total production figures from windermere and a good website to load . am taking a group to have a look at what little is left of site tomorrow.
