TA - what could you achieve on a good motorway run at, say, 80mph, assuming no numpties on the motorway causing braking/acceleration?

Hypothetically 42mpg, but as soon as I leave the middle lane it plummets :-\

Put it another way, £65 to drive to Stourbridge and back...

High twenties, but yes... in pure cost, the Merc uses the same value of fuel as the Omega 28/23mpg respectively...

Replacement should be 24/30mpg respectively, but it has a six speed slush box and 150bhp per tonne, which is nearly twice the Merc :-\
