Major Heart Surgery
« on: 30 November 2014, 20:46:34 »

well the time has come for my beloved v6 to have major heart surgery.....full engine strip down and rebuild....all gaskets replaced and anything else i can find...she was running rather crappy recently and we have discovered why...on removing the timing cover,we noticed the little marks on the cam pulleys were way off mark...even by 2/3 teeth...not good....new timing belt going on....ive just about sorted the interior...gone from black leather to a gorgeous light gray..hopefully will be back out on the road in the next couple of weeks...providing not too much money for mot...

The car is black and I thought it was a little too much with the black interior...looks really good with the gray....been trying to flog the black interior on eBay but nooone wants it...

Mite as well clean the oil sump strainer while your at it  :) Mines getting some bits thrown on it next year , cam belt stat plus clean the strainer , coolant change , rocker gaskets ect .. just getting a few bits at a time then attack it  8)

Why all the gaskets? Cam timing slipping won't affect these

I'd time it up properly then see how it runs :y

i think the head gasket was on its way out...and ive got a nasty oil leak from back of engine...so while all the bits are off might as well change the seals...also the pass exhaust manifold gasket is blowing...change that too lol

I think, if I've read correctly, what James meant was that with the timing being out so far you may have bent the valves. Thus getting it timed up to see if it runs ok. If it doesn't you coulda bent valves thus need new heads / or replacement valves possibly plus guides, stems etc, to be included in your rebuild

Sorry if you already knew that :)

Oil leak externally won't be head gasket, likely oil cooler unions or cam cover gaskets :y
