Probably need a bit more info, rolling start was a 10-15 mph 90 degree right turn, then full bore for 400 metres... after likely terminal speed.

Assume it was the full fat RX8...

Not a clue.. but having driven one, if he wasn't in the right gear (probably 1st gear) then you'd likely have walked away from him on bottom end torque alone.

Ok, to turn the question around... with four people in the car, how fast would it need to  hit a brick gate post/wall hard enough to throw one passenger clear (killed outright), kill a second passenger and fracture the skull of the third passenger  :'(

Something with that performance is going to go through the gate at a drag race at around 90-100 MPH at a guess.

I guess asking the driver isn't an option? ::)

Ah .. you're talking about the two girls who were killed a few days ago, I presume, Al?

Given that it was (I believe?) a fairly frontal impact, I'd have expected all the airbags to deploy - of which there are many (two in the front, two in the sides and possibly two in the rear).  I can only assume some of them weren't wearing seat belts..

It's hard to see how you could end up ejected from a car when wearing belts, TBH. :(

Still, sounds like it was a hard enough impact that it wasn't survivable in any circumstance other than pot luck. :(

Aye, that's them.

Without commenting on the legalities of the situation, the driver is in hospital and intact. There are question marks as to why those two girls were in the car at all, and apart from the driver, no idea who was were in the car  :-\

There are question marks as to why those two girls were in the car at all,

I just assumed they were young, drunk and wanted a lift home (or .. a lift somewhere for some after drinks fun, who knows).

Very sad situation - but we've all been young, dumb and got a lift with the wrong person, I'm sure.. I know I have (I realised it was a bad idea when he hit a kerb and blew a tyre out because he was probably a drunk as I was), just we were lucky enough to live and learn from it :(

228 BHP/230PS RX8 covers a standing quarter mile time in about 15 seconds with a terminal speed nudging 90 MPH.

....so with a 10-15 mph start we are looking at around 100 MPH.

True enough... Both girls were sober, but the driver was pretty much guaranteed to wake up in hospital with or without them :-X
