A few on here do the pipe method to drain ATF (you get more out) if there are no issues with box and its just a change then no need to remove pan.

Ideally the main sump needs to come off to clean out all the metallic debris (which collects around the magnet, in order to stop it being sucked around the gearbox), and the small sump to look for remains of thrust washer.

Though the 2.5DTi is a different box to what we get in the UK.
