Have you got any pipe mines near you?
« on: 27 January 2015, 18:00:45 »

In WWII, with the threat of a German invasion the Government as part of airfield defences and the defence of other military locations laid a series of pipe mines filled with a very powerful explosive called "Polar Blasting Genenite". About 40,000ft of these pipes were laid about 6' below the surface.

It being wartime, records were somewhat incomplete and although some were removed towards the end of WWII and the 'rest' after the war, unknown explosive networks are still turning up.

Just as with ordnance left over in Flanders from the First World War,and land mines from other conflicts since,it is amazing how much of such things still turn up and as you say incomplete records don't help.
