Light Imrpovement
« on: 31 January 2015, 09:55:02 »

there is a question about modificating the light increase on an omega.

before i ask, i explain why.
on the pajero i had a led  / cre 150 w lightbar plus 4x 150 w halogen spotlights on the roof additional to the standart lights which i trnasferd into 6000k hid lights and the bullbar beams.
great light for long distance and any situation. fog, rain, night, snow, etc.
on the v70 i transferd the headlights into 8000k hid lights plus hid foglights and additional 100 w projector beam lights.
again was great, not as powerfull and light as the pajero but good.
the omega has allready a good light but recent / better 2 nights ago in the extrem snow storm i wished i had more light.
also in rain on country lanes in night ( rain allways swallos light up so the lond side visibility is lost to at least half compare dry situation ).
so i start looking them mini led / cre light bars 10 - 15 w to increase the high beam light for more output, brighter, more covering area mainly long distance.
to place them right without looking stupid first i thought in the grill, but this stopps air going to the radiator,
so the idea is beside the foglights.

anybody has experience on them mini led / cre lights 10 - 15 watt an give some recomendations?
i was going for the type of spotlight instead floodlight to cover a longer distance. there is a lot to chose from so i thoughtt if someone has experience with it, lets hear waht you thing and what they like,

i know there will be the answer about mods on the car which some people think is not necessary, or blinding oncoming traffic etc,
but it is for my safety on driving on country lanes and rain in night and my safety come first.

i also dont want to mount some big things on which give the impression of making a modified imprezza version out of it.
small, slim neat but powerfull for use.
10 to 15 watt so i think this should be equal to around 100 to 150 watt standart light. (?)

6k doesn't provide the illumination of the "ideal" 4-4.5k range.

So if illumination you are after, then clearly put in some better bulbs (also, there is a noticible difference between the genuine branded stuff and the cheap tat when it comes to HIDs).

Obviously, if its for show, you go with want you think looks good. As long as it doesn't piss off other roads users, nought else matters :)

Fitted some old type Commercial Plane Landing Lights to a XR3i about 20 odd years ago, I jest not, they were the Planes Wing types and were about the same size as the standard XR3 type, used a Starter Solenoid as the Relay via high beam to switch them on, and some serious cable, the Earth return from them was welded directly to chassis of the car just below the front grill.  ;D

They worked exceptionally well, would light up miles in front of you, needless to say the Battery and Charging system got a hammering.  ;)
