Most of the time its down to the cable failing due to heat.

"VXL", which sensor fails due to heat, crank or camshaft? Would it be silly to suggest trying to organise some kind of heat shield and/or thermal isolation?

When you fit the new one, its no longer across the top of the head and next to the exhaust and usually the wiring has some corrugated silver foil fitted.
