Rear springs
« on: 17 February 2015, 07:39:37 »

Hi guys, my previous omega was an estate with s/l and was sitting quite high - never measured the numbers but seemed just right  :-X , well I've bought a saloon omega 2.5 and have a fealing the rear seats too low. I've read many of your omegas had their rear springs broken and were sitting low as a result. What's the price for rear springs on non s/l saloon omega and is it fiddly job to replace it?

Rears are easy enough (unlike the fronts where you're faced with dismantling the MacPherson strut, like I am this week  ::)) Also, personal experience, the do seem to sit low. This is probably why such as The Boy recommend, when lowering an Omega, to drop the front 10 or 20mm lower than the rear, otherwise you'll be losing your exhaust on a weekly basis. (I smashed mine on standard springs, and have grazed the backbox in a driveway before, so they're not offroaders!)

If you're worried about the spring(s) being cracked - check.  :) As for replacements, you'll find reasonably priced new, and nice n cheap used off here for sale. You'll probably get told 'don't fit second hand springs' which there is a logic to, I appreciate, each to his own. However, I don't know any Omega running brand new springs - the instant you fit them to the car they're 'second hand'  :y

Really ideally fit in pairs, too.  :)

It's fine. Check brand new at your end - then see what you can get second hand off here, as there's always springs from cars for sale. I managed to get a full set of MV6 springs for £40  :y

I have a set of plod saloon springs as per my ad in Parts for sale :y

Fitting Sh is ok provided the springs are servicable and sound. New or old, must be fitted in pairs and if sh ideally get all from one vehicle... :y
