Rear end refresh (steady now) - parts?
« on: 07 March 2015, 10:59:32 »

Since the explod is still sat with his arse skyward, I'm thinking of a full-on refresh while I'm under there.

So far Ive thought -

Poly bushes for the subframe
Bilstein B4s and Eibach springs
Braided brake lines
Pads and discs
Reconditioned calipers.

Its already got new handbrake cable... Anything else I should think about? Diff mounts?

Check the diff mounts carefully  :y

I have a plan afoot for refurbishment,  but they're not available except as used...

You could also do the trailing arm bushes and anti-roll bar bushes.  You'll also want to free-off the adjusters on the tie-rod arms for when you come to have the geometry re-aligned.

I have a full set of braided hoses here that I bought from brake-lines.co.uk (VAU-4-179) will sell them for £70 inc. UK postage.
Also, have a factory refurbished N/S rear calliper (see here clicky) can do this with the brake lines for £175 inc. UK postage.

BTW, if you need new pins, etc. for the pads then the VX part number to order for the complete pads/pins/springs/shims kit is 9195058 - should cost £60 inc. VAT,  May sound pricey but I've seen people paying £50 just for the pins and springs!

Re trailing arm bushes, I've never ever heard of these needing to be replaced. Never had anything to do with them as a result.

This could mean they never fail, or we are all driving around on buggered ta bushes. Interesting to see what you find if you go in there though :).
But do be advised that the excentric poly trailing arm bushes are NOT for the omega, as it has camber correction bars (rear tie tod adjusters) that rely on the softer rubber bushes to enable adjustment.

TBH, I haven't seen a failed set either, only suggested thinking OP might want the car 'like new' :)

And, yeah, avoid the poly ones on Omegas fitted with the rear tie bars.  Poly rear ARB bushes would be ok though but the rear ARB bushes are a PITA to get at - you have to drop the rear crossmember a long way down to get into them, probably easier on a ramp rather than axle stands.  Also worth checking the condition of the ARB link arms.

Arb bushes and drop links never fail. They are quite different to the front (for those that haven't seen them) while poly might be a usable upgrade for those that desire it, I'm not sure they are available in poly for the rear roll bar system. ..,.Are they....? :-\
