Leader LSC cam cover gasket set
« on: 10 May 2015, 22:08:23 »

Today I bought Y342WVV 2.6 petrol manual Omega saloon via e-bay from man in Plymouth, to replace daughter's rusty 2.5. Cam belt was last changed in 2005 42000 miles ago, so job there. Also cam cover gaskets appear to be leaking, and in the boot I found a Leader specialist LSC gasket kit 90511451, containing 4 rubber cam cover gaskets and 14 O rings. It only cost £12.46 plus VAT. From earlier threads I imagine this forum will not recommend my using this kit, on the grounds that it will fail soon. Am I correct?

Yes! You are correct.

While there are some pattern gaskets on trial by at least one member, these remain unproven.

In the mean time, GM from a dealer, only, are a known quantity. Not without their faults, such as cost v life span, but they are the only known reliable part.

Worth double checking the covers for warping before ordering as they come with the seals fitted :y

Having said that, as long as you know the possible failure mode and possible shortened life span, and accept keeping an eye on them to keep your ignition system from damage, then .... Up to you obviously. Buyer beware as they say. :)

I fitted some of those last summer. Leaked everywhere. Did the job again 2 weeks later using genuine gaskets and o rings with complete success.
Just my experience though.

Thank you gentlemen. I shall buy genuine Vx. Is there a trade club discount?

I need a cam belt kit. I usually buy SKF kit from Autovaux. Is this still sound policy?

Gates or Contitech (I can never remember which) from Buypartsbuy seems to be the most commonly used non Vauxhall supplier :y
