Laser 3302 Engine Timing Set for GM V6
« on: 13 May 2015, 20:54:58 »

Is the Laser 3302 Engine Timing Set for GM V6 a good set?

I have read somewhere that some sets don't fit correctly and are not very precise at setting things up for the timing. Mainly the crank locking tool. I want a reliable tool that once setup will be 100% correct.

The Sealey kit is the preferred one iirc... :-\

There where reports of same dodgy laser kits.. But I think they had a bad batch.

Chris, can you remember how long ago that the dogy kits were sold?
Can you remember what the problem was?

I have found this kit on EBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LASER-TOOLS-3302-ENGINE-TIMING-SET-FOR-GM-V6-/310452249361?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4848656311

For a reasonable price compared to the rest. So long as there not the dodgy old stock.

Al, I've not come across the Sealey kit. I will have a look and see what the price is like.

Thanks

The dodgy Laser kits were a LONG time ago. 5 or 6 years would be my guess. I doubt it's an issue any more.

I think a batch with poor castings got onto the market somehow. I have a Laser kit without the poor fitting issue. It does the job. Not the highest quality kit I have seen, but for the occasional belt change it's fine.

Kevin, that was years ago then. Nothing to worry about if I buy new.

Just found a nice Sealey VSE130, new complete with torque socket and the spanner needed for adjustment. Save me some money that would have been spent on a new spanner and socket that I needed and for the same price as the Laser one. Nice one Al.  :y

Thank you all for your help and advice.  :y
