Napier were well know for odd engine designs with the Sabre (H arranged twin crank engine with sleeve valves as used in the Typhoon) and the Deltic.

There is also the Ilmor 5 stroke engine as well.

Perhaps not in the unusual engine category as such - it's still a 4-stroke, watercooled, electric ignition engine, though I suppose a 21st century mechanic would struggle a bit with what to do with it, but I always likely the size of the flywheel on the Benz 3-wheeler...



Looks batty, but it works, at 0.75bhp it apparently returned 24mpg. :y
