This removes the Digestive...
« on: 04 June 2015, 14:26:09 »

Thought best have look at the screenwash, as it's been abysmal of late. Grille off, found the motor and the rubber filter/grommet (never actually done one before) cleaned thoroughly, even got a staple and pierced all the holes. Couldn't believe how gunky it was. Refitted. Bonnet down, tested - amazing! Works brilliant. Bonnet up, grille on, bonnet down.

Ahh, as I had a few mins before dinnerhour ended, I opened the bonnet, looked for any signs of air leaks (lumpy idle that's another story), noticed a bit of water in the scuttle (from the screenwash) - strange - had a feel for dead leaves etc.

Tried to put the screenwash on with the bonnet up to chuck some water down the scuttle drain, see if it was draining ok. Nothing. Bonnet down, Nothing. Washers dead!!!

Bonnet up, looked for a pipe that may have pulled out, or anything. Nothing. Bonnet down, tried washers, Nothing.

Ahh, so a job well done.  >:(

I have not a chuffin clue!! Any suddenly-split pipe would surely be spurting water out very noticeably in the engine bay?

Can you hear the motor running? Have you checked the fuse?

Yep, motor running, buzzing away merrily.

Sorry, should have mentioned. Unless anyone knows if the motor can be working fine, but the 'blades' or however it actually pumps can be broken? I may have a FL pump in the back yard, if anyone knows they're the same? Will have been for a headlamp pressure washer model if I do have one. (well my old man has one, I should say)

There is a join near the bonnet hinge to aid bonnet removal. Also it might be worth running them for a while incase the one way valve has gone and it's draining back.

Next step would be to disconnect the pipe where ever you can and see if water is coming out further down the pipe. I'm thinking you may have disturbed some crud and it's blocking something.

Yeah, that's logical - it was literally putting the grille back, making sure everything was in 'right' (hah, ahhh, dear hindsight, we meet again) then closing, opening and closing the bonnet again, and suddenly kaput!

Dare I ask, nobody has mentioned it yet, but......have you checked the water in the tank?

If there was a lot of crud, could a piece have gone up the pipe and jammed in a coupling, or
fallen back in and blocked the inlet to the pump. This would allow the pump to still run.

Just a thought, you've probably solved it by the time I post this.

cured!

as suggested, another bit of gunk had blocked the filter. ensured the water was right to the top this time, too, and all well - just one partially blocked jet, but i have some spares, so will get in that at a later date.

Much appreciated Deviator  :)

and no, that was a contributing factor, Elmstoneboy, not silly at all. It was low and I did mis-judge just how much water is needed to get it to at leasts minimum level. Crud partially blocking the filter combined with low fluid level.

In time may run the pump continuously just to suck any smaller bits from inside the lines, if there is any, safe it letting me down on a dusty road or similar

Cheers!  :y
