Are the brake light bulbs GM or pattern rubbish... actually makes a difference. Also does the high level light work?

The check control does seem to be fussy towards bulbs.  The older Ring and older Halfords ones used to be particularly problematic, although recently Halfords bulbs seem OK.  Unbranded cheap shite from online auction sites are also likely to cause problems.
