I thought I had solved my screenwasher problem, when I took out the filter it had what I can only describe as a snot hanging off it. I cleaned this and refilled the bottle and all was good. I went to use this morning and they wont work again. I havnt checked yet but I presume it blocked again. Is there anything I can put in to kill of the bacteria.

Use screen wash. Loads of it to start with.

And it's worth googling legionares and not using screen wash.


Also, after another thread, check the pipe isn't kinked up by the scuttle drain.

If its like a white slime, take bumper off, take off reservoir and wash it out thoroughly. Unblock everything whilst there.  Reassemble, and never let the screen wash concentration go less than 1:10ish.

just done that flushed it through twice with water and a drop of bleach. now topped up with a litre of screenwash and 5 litres of water

Had a similar problem with the mig & the Terracan was even worse, someone on here suggested using Milton  sterilising liquid every so often it did the trick never have any problems now.

Having some screenwash in the bottle is most likely cheaper, and obviously gives better cleaning results. Screenwash prevents the growth of this slime.

The bacteria in water will not be removed by screenwash ,hence the smell from the jets when used also the smell from the bottle, sterilising solutions are not expensive just put 2 or 3 capfuls in every couple of months costs pence !! Screenwash alone will not prevent bacterial sliime.

The only smell from mine is the smell of the screenwash.  Additionally, I've not had any issues for about the last 8 or 9 years, since I learnt this was the cure .

As screenwash additionally helps clear the screen, its needed anyway, albeit it weak concentrations in the summer. And obviously its needed in winter to prevent freezing.

And because screenwash does prevent the formation of the white slime that blocks the components, no need for anything else

Screen wash exists for this very reason. As said Google legionares and screen wash etc


And don't breath in any vapour or water particles from the jets without screen wash or when cleaning out the bottle etc.

The system is comparable to a water system on a caravan, the only way to prevent bacteria is with sterilisation it is the filter in the system which gets a bacterial build up, no amount of screnwash will dissolve it.On my caravan as it has an on board system there is a filter which is easily accessible to change after each sterilization at the end of approximately 12 weeks usage. The filter in my Hyundai was accessible by removing the  wheel arch liner & was completely clogged up , it was cleaned in Milton and has performed perfectly for the last 3 years , where as when I first got it the jets were very poor in performance. I got the advice from the Hyundai forum not here as previously stated.

Except you don't want screenwash in a caravan.

Screenwash prevents the buildup/formation. Hence the advice if you already have it is to clean the system, then use screenwash going forward

I have never said don't use screenwash, the advice that was given is how to rid the bacterial growth from the system, the caravan was used  as an example re the water container ,why on earth would anyone think  of adding screenwash  to water which is for consumption !!  Why a suggestion of help turns to ridicule is beyond comprehension.
