Citroen Ax/ZX/whatever v Vauxhall Omega
« on: 08 July 2008, 21:20:19 »

Well anyone can guess the outcome.  Slide an AX into the back (r/n/s) of a stationary Omega and what do you get?  In this case a very poorly Citroen (apparently he couldn't get back into his driver's door) and a messed up rear bumper.  Whilst the gent (yet to be proven) was at fault there were mitigationg circumstances regarding a bigger numpty pratting about at the scene and doing a drive-off.  We might like to fix this up ourselves like civilised beings if feasable.

The bumper is badly scored (no jokes please - well, only good ones), lightly gouged might be fair (been in a good fight) and the wrap around black trim is broken at its mount so it pops in and back out again at will.  The small chrome trim is dented (no real worry) but the rubber behind has been squeezed out just to highlight the ding.  Number two parking sensor is damaged (shame they looked so good).

What is the chance of hidden damage?  This is on the n/s, inside the boot everything looks fine, behind the spare wheel looks fine, underneath seems okay too.  The exhaust took a hit up the tail pipe (red citroen plastic evident) but sounds no noiser than it did last week (have a slight blow on the o/s front).  To be quite honest it looks more like she's reversed into a sturdy hedge.

Given it is not the very best and most pristine example in the whole neigbourhood (it has seen the odd shopping trolley).  Is it necessary to replace the bumper, will a good sander some filler and a spray look half decent do you think?

Repair it. Prep, prep, prep more you prep better the finish. New bumper too expensive, 2nd hand will probably need painting anyway. :y

When my front bumper was damaged in a car park ( the old miggy not this one) it was easier/cheaper in the end to get one from a breaker (£50) and have it sprayed (£50 by a mate with a spray shop) properly. Trying to straighten the chrome bits and get the rubber bits to stay where they should just seemed impossible.

There are a few cars being broken so getting a complete bumper should not be difficult.

Bad day :'(

Check the rear door gap distances..And how they close and open..

if the hit was strong I'm afraid there may be other consequences not visible..

Might have been a ZX actually-

Taa cem - note to check.

Verdict so far - looks limited to the bumper so not so bad.

So might be after a 2nd hand good nick (any colour) mini-facelift saloon rear bumper, near home!  Can collect!

Went out (in the rain) for the photos but alas, couldn't post them until now.
