Sun Roof Cover - Glue?
« on: 20 July 2015, 12:11:58 »

I need to redo the interior clothe cover inside the Sun Roof as its pulled itself away and starting to trap / crimple itself when fully closed (Vauxhall metal roof, not glass).

So, what a good glue to use, looks like the clothe its just stretched then stuck on the hidden edges, but I don't won't to use any old glue in case it seeps in the clothe around the edges if that makes sense.

Edit, just to add, although the clothe matches the car roof colour, its not the same material, looks and feels like a very thin nylon feel, which is stretched over a thin piece of foam, so again don't won't to use some glue, that will eat into or damage the cover.

I'm going to be replacing my sunroof in the near future, but in this instance, I'd have thought (and hope) that just replacing the entire fabric and plastic panel would be doable, rather than stripping it down and gluing a new cloth piece to it?

I'd imagine if you're seeking a means of glue whch won#t seep into anything, then either spray adhesive or even very wide double sided tape would work. Tried something similar with PVA glueing some fabric and it soaked through, spoiling the effect, as you have suggested you fear may happen  :)

Yea the clothe is in good nick, just needs sticking back at the front where its now catching when closing.

Ruled out double sided, although good gear can't see it lasting especially with heat on a black roof.

Hot Glue gun maybe?

Shouldn't seep and should do what you need as long as you're accurate with the initial application  :)

If only there was  something made for this sort of job.

How about upholstery contact adhesive?

Not aerosols from Home base, but the evil smelling stuff in a can.
