Trailer tyre thread
« on: 26 August 2015, 11:50:35 »

Hi all,
I am off to Newent next week, but I need two tyres for the trailer tent. On the side of the trailer is a label that says Max Gross Weight 1980 lbs which equates as about 884 Kgs.
The tyre size is 4.00 - 8 C D5 4pr. I can't seem to find any that fit, weight wise. Most are 250 kg load, which you double for total axle weight.
I have found these tyres on the bay of thieves, with a higher rating. Do you think they will be ok. Not the full loading. The trailer will only be lightly loaded, mainly the canvas and frame. Its a very very old trailer tent...80's job, Erka Chantilly, so can't find any specs. Running short on time now and the linked tyres are next day delivery. Had a blowout on it when towing on the M27 with my Mk1 Senator. Not a pleasant experience.

Thanks in advance
Tony

That's typical, Steve...poke their oar in when not applicable, and never around when you need them ;D ;D

Go to your lokal ATS or agricultural tyre specialist, and ask them for 400+8 tubeless 6 or 8 ply rating, or your nearest tin tent selling outlet, :)

Hmmph...phoned some of the tyre places round here...as much use as a chocolate teapot. Didn't really want to know.
Located some now from my link, rang them up and got a very helpful man, and then, believe it or not, we got talking about Senators and Omega's ;D ;D ;D

don't work with trailers but have seen some vans with wrong tyres and scarily old perished cracked death traps  :o but my unproffesional two penneth would be that the 884 kg is the max and your goint to be lower and as your getting a higher rateing tyre and also they will be brand new I would go for it,on a professional level I would contact a dealer of trailor tents and ask theyre advice  :y
