Rachel & I would love to go to N, Ireland for a few days in the next few weeks. Has anyone been recently (past few years) & could recommend a good place to stay with a nice hotel?
I've never been & so was wondering if we needed our passports  :-/
Want to take the Mig instead of flying so we have freedom to roam.

Your thoughts, suggestions please

went to the north west 200 motorcycle races in 2000. Stayed in a rented bungalow in CASTLEROCK near COLERAINE on the Antrim coast. Great place, great people. Giants causeway, bushmills distillery, ride through Londonderry to see the painted houses, fabulous coastline. No passport = its part of the uk. Definitely take the car to see the place.

i suggested ireland as holiday or short break to me mate a while back.... he looked at me....rolled his trouser leg up and pointed to his leg and said no thanx i got this the last time i went to n.ireland a bullett through the leg.....Ooopss i thought better not mention that again to him.....i would like to go though maybe to dublin with me brother and sisterinlaw as her family comes from kilkenny....

no pasport required just ur driving licence as ID
lots off places to go just depends what ur into mate

you will almost certainly need passports for i.d. at the airport.dependig how long your going for,antrim coast,mountains of mourne,enniskillen area (n.i. lake district) belfast for shops/nightlife etc;......getting homesick now.

If you go by boat you won't need a passport. If flying, as with all flights now you will need a passport or European visa.

Not been for a while but I went a few times by boat when I did contract work for P&O. Lovely place, loads to see & do. Most of the natives were really friendly too

The "trouble" really ceased in 1998 with the Good Friday Agreement, but although there had been trouble again in 1999, basically it is all over!  Your mate's wound was no doubt a result of being in NI/ in the Army; British or IRA;  before 1998.  The Northern Ireland Assembly is at last fully established!  

From what I have heard from a relative who only recently moved back from the Republic, who travelled around the North, and from other reports from people in the know about NI it is now a lovely place to visit with some great people, countryside, food and of course drink

There is just some public houses you should avoid where (apparently) some hard line Loyalists / Republicans hang out and still hold with the old views!
