Just don't set the cruise control and wander off into the back to make a coffee as an American did quite a few years ago in his new Winnebago :o It did not end well and in court he claimed it didn't say he couldn't in the owners manual and won his case :D

Assuming it tipped the scales at sub 7.5 tonnes I guess I could take out all but half a dozen seats & I drive it on my pre 97 driving licence  :-\

I've recently purchased a VW T4.  It's a solid van with no rot, but cost me in excess of 5k.

Lots and lots of money for a very old van - but I'll never lose on it!

Lol, especially once you've put water, a generator, waste and walls/furniture in it ;D Pig ugly too...

Joking aside, you'd need at least a Class 2 licence probably, and if you wanted to tow a car then probably need a Class 1 to do it properly :-\ Not sure what those covered car trailers weigh...

There's a place near me that does some nice motorhomes .......  :y

http://www.emm-bee.co.uk/burstner-elegance--i810g-5479

That would have been perfect but i'd need to widen the drive gates , plus have the road altered to swing it around to get in and out  ::)

Its a motorhome, can be driven on a car licence, its classed as an indivisible load. Also not for hire or reward, but chuck a trailer behind them, that's when fun starts, there's a few hospitality company's,and race teams have found out.

Used to be that way but I'm fairly certain you need to have a licence for the GVW of your 'home now.  :-\

I think it's an age thing in that you have grandfather rights to drive something over 3500kg if you passed your test before 97/98, but youngsters are limited to under 3500kg hence the MPTML of new motor homes is often plated to 3500kg to sell them. They can often be re-plated to more.

I think Tunnie is right. We have a family member who has spent many tens of thousands on new motorhomes, then kitted them out with the latest gizmos including solar. One was the massive 5th wheel type. They however hardly went anywhere in them and lost money when they sold to buy another one. Most odd but a bit like a hobby.

The big drawback with a motorhome is you have to pack everything away before you can move. They are great if you are going somewhere different each day and not coming back ( Ifancy visiting every country in the EU when I retire). For a weekend away a caravan beats a motorhome hands down. But then a Marriott beats them both and you still have your capital.

My colleague ignored a low bridge warning in Rouen rush hour.  You can imagine the carnage.

Believe it or not, we try not to let him forget it....
