scrapping a car?
« on: 28 October 2015, 22:44:34 »

I was wondering, lots of you guys have sold parts of your cars for spares, and in many cases there must have been a lot of it missing when the time came to dispose of the remainder.
Do scrap dealers still come and take the rest away or do you have to pay them, as they have very little left to make any money on.
Was just wondering if its worth messing about with selling bits or not see?

I think all they worry about is the weight, but steel it cheap at the moment so you're not going to get a fortune regardless.

You will most likely make more money from the bits you sell than what you would get for scrapping the whole car.

The shells I've had uplifted usually made me about £100 after collection charge but they're doing me a favour taking it away TBH, you'd maybe get £50 more if the running gear was still there.

Had a quick chat with Charles Muddle over in Adversane...

Car can be in any condition/bits missing/panels missing etc... their only condition is that it MUST still have the wheels fitted.

They won't pay anything, but they will collect for free...

Let me know when the garage returns it :y

Around here most of the mobile breakers wont touch it unless its pretty much complete, ie they want to make money on parts as well as scrap, don't scrap many myself but the last one I did went in for (a quoted £120 value) when the guy turned to collect he started deducting money for parts that where missing, -10 for no battery, -75 no engine, gearbox, -30 seats, -80 no cats, etc etc, got to the stage where He wanted money from me to take the car away. Needless say we politely parted company and I found another guy who offered to take it away for free, he's only conditions where it still had wheels on it, and he could yank it on the back of he's trailer.

Place I refere to used to be a breakers, now purely a recycling facility... so what they get paid for the various materials covers their localish collection cost, plus expense of processing etc :y

Reason for the wheels is the same... brakes are irrelevant  :D

Cheers guys, thats helpful and maybe if it helps to keep a few more Omegas on the road, I might consider breaking it.
Should have enough posts to sell some bits by around Christmas time 2017.

 :) :)
