I think we need a guide to decent pubs, restaurants, cafes and takeaways.

If I may start with one for anyone near Hartlepool - Big Lou's cafe on York Road. Proper one man band, all fresh cooked, handmade burgers, lush breakfasts, proper brews. And, most importantly for a tight Northerner like me... Very cheap.

And for somewhere a little posher, Borge in Stockton. Has been there for years, we tried it yesterday. Beautiful food, great service, and excellent drinks menu. Again not to badly priced - we did three courses each and plenty of drinks for about fifty quid. And the creme brulee is to die for!

 as much curry as you can eat, take your own alcohol. Does it get any better.

English Grub. Junction 26, at J26 M25.

Junction 26 diner is an independently owned restaurant situated on the edge of Epping Forest at junction 26 of the M25, not marked up as Services on the M25, its a hidden off road Lorry Park that does anything from a Bacon Sarnie with a Cuppa, All Day food and proper Home Cooked Grub in the evenings.

English Pub with proper Thai Food.

Or venture out another 5 mins from J26 into depths of Epping Forest hidden all on its own, a Pub called the Robin Hood, a traditional Pub that serves English Ale with authentic freshly cooked Thai Food that wont break the Bank.
A pint of Real Ale and Thai Grub, what more could you ask for, or Thai Beer is also available.

Thanks for your offer, if i have time may well do. Not sure what my mate has planned for us as we are using our time for an early crimbo session.  Will give you a run down on the eatery.

As we are eating at the moment and its bloody lovely -The Old Farmhouse, Middleton St George, near Darligton. It's a Vintage Inn, but it feels homely, and the food is absolutely top drawer.
