F/S: Short-shift manual gear lever
« on: 11 December 2015, 07:22:42 »

Complete manual gear lever (with good gear knob) modified to give around 35% less shift distance, will fit all manual Omega models, the gear shift mechanism is universal.

£50 collected, £60 posted in UK.

Pretty straight-forward to change over.

Arggh.. flippin touchpad on laptop.

Try again...

Changing the gearlever should take no more than 30 mins:
From underneath, pull back the boot protecting the bottom of the gearstick, slide off the gear linkage pin retainer and remove the pin, undo the 4 bolts circling the base of the gearstick.
From above, pull up the gear level gaiter and then pull rubber bellows off of the plate on the transmission tunnel - the gear lever can now be lifted straight up and out
Transfer the nylon bushes from the bottom ring of the old gear lever to the new one
Locate the 2 bars with the threaded holes at each end from the top of the black housing (this is where the 4 bolts you removed from underneath screw in to)
Transfer the 2 bars to the new gear lever and also the orange/red washer that needs to go over the bottom ring of the gear lever
Re-assemble by dropping the new gearlever into place, bolting up from underneath, replace pin connecting it to gear linkage and put the rubber boot back
From above, put the bellows and trim gaiter back on and job's done

I used to have one these on an Ex Plod and it really does improve the feel and make the manual gearbox a joy to use.  :y

The standard lever on the Omega's feels a bit like Gondola's Paddle in the middle of a Lake after using a short shift.  ;)

I've always felt like I need to get in the back seat to select 2nd, 4th and reverse!!!

Have to say, I cannot see any difference compared to the standard one I sold earlier today :-\

The section from the "ball" to lower eye where the linkage attaches has been extended by 10mm which (given the leverage ratio to the upper section of the stick) makes a noticeable difference  ;)
