Shoving a screwdriver into the earth pin to unlock the socket counts as an approved adapter, right?  :-X
Yes. Never, ever use a large nail.  :y

I would go straight to trading standards if sold an appliance within the UK without a UK TYPE 3 PIN PLUG plug fitted.

I suspect they wouldn't give a monkey's, though, given the quantity of tat that's sold here without even meeting basic electrical safety requirements let alone having the correct plug fitted. ::)

It's been law since 1st February 1995 for Manufacturers and Importers of Electrical Goods for Domestic use.

Of course, a continental plug with a suitable adaptor is fine, provided there are clear instructions on how to use the adaptor, and the adaptor meets ASTA or BSI standards.

The retailer tried to cover thierselves with that one, they are now contacting the manufauror to send me a mains lead as the monitor came direct from them (Even though thier wharehouse showed plenty in stock)  I would have thought it was the retailers responsibilty to make sure all was correct.
