After having 2 Carltons am on my 3rd Omega. Now have a 52 plate 2.6 MV6.
Last one was 53 plate 2.6 CDX. Engine went at 200,000.
Got the MV6 cheap after it had been part exchanges and when spoke to previous owner told me the problems. Fixed by fitting new ambient temperature sensor. Getting Aircon gassed. Oil leak which he told me garage wanted to take engine out to find. Fixed the cause which was the breather blocked but yet to do the cam gaskets which it had blown. Garage wanted more than l paid for the car. Have added cruise control off previous car. Problem l have is for the same engine this seems to do way less mpg. CDX on run to London would do 32-33, lucky if l can get 27 out of MV6. Putting foot down goes to 7 mpg which l dont think l ever saw on CDX. Only other car got worse than this was a Volvo T5 which you could take nearly to a 100 without it coming out of 5 mpg. Was always a challange to try and get 4 but was a directors car so was fair game. Is there something different from the CDX to MV6 or is this what others expect to get. Is 7 mpg normal and if not any ideas as to where to look for solution. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds about right to me  I could see 7 .something from my 3.0 if I planted it

Manual or auto? Auto will be worse than manual. Might be down to cambelt timing or multirams misbehaving... All working as it should?

If you're caning the living shit out of it then an instant 7mpg, whilst piss poor, shouldn't be a surprise

My 2.6 CDX manual, now sold was exactly the same would indicate 7 MPG on hard acceleration but averaged anywhere between 27 - 32 MPG overall.

2.6s generally do similar mpg to 3.2s - I average 25-28 ish out of a tank on the 3.2

Iam lucky to see 17s out of my 3.2 but i do have a issue with a lambda sensor at the moment.

Overall SWMBOs 2.6 does around 27 - 30 mpg overall.  Will show 7mpg on the instant if booted (particularly if I'm driving)

Can only repeat, yes, see 7mpg on the instant under hard right foot. With town driving alone seeing a real-world average of 11mpg (ouch) and that's driving pretty sedately. Climbs to a much more reasonable 30mpg on longer motorway run.

However, if you're wanting to investigate, as said, air leaks and possible multirams are the place to look. However, I've been looking for ages and found nothing!

The Omega FC will NOT read below 7.1mpg, even if it is doing less than that.

A tank average of a bit under 30mpg would be what I'd expect from a 2.6. Low 20s for a 3.2, low 30s from a 2.5 and low/mid 20s from a 3.0.  All assuming an auto.

A manual will add somewhere in region of an extra 3-5mpg.

Thanks for the answers. Maybe the CDX was just good. Have to strip to do cam gaskets when l get a chance so will see if anything changes after that. Expect the plug apertures are filled with oil. Cheers all.

Some decent servicing will help

Blocked air filter?

Does it feel down on power?

Either way, give it a full service and good clean of the breathers while you are doing the cam cover gaskets, check the vac pipes are all connected correctly and then see where you are.  Chances are it'll be a lot better.

2.6CD manual estate here. 27.3mpg according to the computer. I am happy as I was getting that from the 2.6 GSI Vectra estate, granted that had 'luke-warm' cams over this engine. (4 x A instead of I believe 2 x E and 2 x F in the omega IIRC)

On my 2.5's low 30's is only ever achieved on a long smooth run.
