« on: 26 February 2016, 20:30:28 »

i know this is aimed at track day events but is this stuff suitable for our cars as a general oil? if not why not?

something like this http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/halfords-5w50-fully-synthetic-track-day-oil-5l

As there is nothing mentioned about what makes it trackday oil(whatever that might be) I detect the hand of a marketing department with their sights set on the gullible.

Yep, a wide viscosity range like that suggests it contains a lot of VI modifiers which is the last thing you'd want on track, I'd have thought.

Just an unpopular grade they can't shift, so get marketing to sex it up. ;D

there's some on ebay, £12 / 5l - 322015123330

i think the track day bit must be the unusually high viscosity range ,  50 better at high temps perhaps.
