What was the point tho -- was he going to pare it down gradually until only the locking nut was left ??

Your guess is as good as mine, but I think that was his plan till his mate turned up :-X, but by that time the damage was already done :o

I did tell the bloke he should go and get his geometry done, as at one point the bloke took a big Sammy Sledge hammer to it and was giving some pounding :-X

Only needed a box of HSS drill bits, a drill and some patience..... Been there witth two locking bolts on mine when I got the car.

Once the bolt's been drilled a few times the tension starts to decrease, a combination of overtightening the other four helped as well.

What the bloks done was, bolstered the centre section of the wheel locking nut several times to remove the threads on the inside of the locking nut, once that was done removed the locking nut.

maybe he was hoping it'd just happen to come off...somehow
