Central Locking - Front Passenger Door
« on: 15 March 2016, 00:20:35 »

Had a niggly problem, front passenger door has worked on the central locking intermitantly for the last few weeks meaning that we have to unlock /lock the door from the inside.

Last passenger that got out put the button down and shut the door, neither of us thought any more about till tonight when it refused to unlock.

Cant pull the button up
Wont unlock via key fob.
Tried dead locking with the key and unlocking with the key.

Any idea's to unlock the door?
Was the problem created by putting the button down before closing the door.

TIA for an help

Window down, then from outside pull the knob up with a pair of stout mole grips ;)
If the button pulls off, repeat on the metal rod...

When you helpful passenger pushed the button down, your button press to lock it probably deadlocked it...

Thats what I was thinking, but surely by trying the fob and the key itself should have undone it.

Cant deadlock just from button inside. But playing with fob might well have done.

You can try wiggling button at same time as using fob to unlock in the hope that the switches may make one last gasp, but suspect you'll be damaging the doorcard to get at it.

There is no need to damage the door card to open the passenger door lock.  The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, fortunately I had a spare passenger door lock so that I could see how the thing functioned.  All you need is some stout welding wire bent into a small hook (I used stainless steel) and a small torch to illuminate inside the door, a small single LED bulb type is perfect.
With the window fully wound down and the LED lighting up the door innards you should see a brown plastic cover fitted to the door lock.  You need to get the hook under this and pull up sharply to remove it, a bit of brute force is needed and it will probably split as it comes off.  If you have a spare lock you can fit the cover from this on reassembly as I did or just leave it off. (It is only there to try and stop thieves using a wire hook to open the door).  Once the cover is off you can get the hook under the locking lever and a swift pull up will open the door.  It really does help to have spare lock so you see exactly how to position the hook before pulling up to open the door.  It took me about 10 minutes of aborted attempts until I got the hook exactly the right shape to work properly but at least the door card was not damaged.

If it has deadlocked you can pull the lock rods/mechanisms as hard as you like, but it won't open. If the lock button and locking motor weren't synchronised properly then this could easily have happened. The passenger who did this is an idiot.
