Struggling to replace wiper drive assembly
« on: 11 May 2016, 12:04:46 »

2,5 petrol PFL manual estate
Annoying squeak in wiper drive persuaded me to replace the drive assembly, I find I have 3 spares. I got it of with a bit of a struggle, but cannot get the replacement on. I am prevented from manouevring the grommet over the spigot by the heater bypass valve, which is held up by a bracket attached to the breather box. This bracket does not seem to have any function. May I remove it? It seems to be attached to the breather box by 2 torx head screws.

The scuttle is all you need to remove. Some creative jiggling/turning of the assembly will see it in place. Be careful you don't scratch the wing.

I removed the bracket many years ago and the HBV just sits within its pipework in a stable non wobbly way, and makes removal of wiper assembly much easier. Never thought about refitting the bracket, as IMO it doesn't really do much.

Thanks for help, chaps. Error was mine; I was trying to re-install wiper transmission with centre top mounting below body mounting hole. All well now, squeak gone. Wing a bit scratched, though.

The bracket secures the HBV and also has a multi plug attached, and should have a mounted cable tie keeping the HT leads off the pipe below.
I just refitted my wiper assembly, I was trying to make it go under the mounting point, but it doesn't. The fixing on the motor assembly should slide over the fixing. On top. Try that.
