Meyle and Moog
« on: 27 May 2016, 12:55:38 »

Are these decent brands?  ???

My local parts places has Meyle front shock/struts for £42.86 each and Moog wishbones for £53.81 each.  They also have Delphi wishbones at the same price and FAI Autoparts wishbones at £62.77 each.  :-\

Although it got though the MOT, the front shocks are a bit soft, so I'm thinking about replacement and while I'm at it new wishbones as well,  as the ones on there are 'El Cheapos'...  ::)

Meyle stuff I've used in the past and it's been OK. The problem is, it depends on the part to a great extent. Some parts are fine regardless of who makes them, others genuine only, and most somewhere in-between.

Delphi wishbones had a global recall a few years back... if they can prove a 2016 MANUFACTURING date, they might be worth a punt... :-\

I managed half that... iirc the only reason I found out about the recall was from a member over in the States who had a similar experience... the place I purchased mine from were unaware of the recall, but investigated it when I asked... turns out there was a dodgy batch which had been recalled... too late for me as they had already been changed/binned... Was 2010 iirc :-\

Last set I bought were Febi ones... but if I needed drop links and trackrods, the ATP bundle is still cracking value for money, even allowing for rebushing before fitting :y

Not keen on these as the welds on the rear bush carrier started to crack on the set I had.  Maybe the front poly bushes puts extra stress on the rear bush carrier.  :-\

Just been looking at the ATP website and there is a lot of choice compared to UK suppliers and the prices are good too!  8)

Here's what they have for front shocks/struts and wishbones.  :y

Front Shocks/Struts

KYB - £55.89
Sachs - £52.84
HD - £49.94
Mapco - £43.51
Monroe - £43.02
Optimal - £40.44
Metzger - £26.37
Best Price - £44.32 (For a set of 2)

Wishbones

Meyle - £173.20
Febi Bilstein - £72.93
JP Group - £39.56
Automega - £34.31
Flennor - £26.60
Best Price - £42.30 (For a set of 2)

So while the wishbones are similar prices to what you can get at ECP or CP4L, the shocks are much cheaper!  Sachs front shock/struts are £105 at ECP (before discount).   ::)

Food for thought!  ::)  :y
